[ V'seji steps back to let his partner take the reins again, watching his back as he lunges toward Nidhogg with risen spirit. A smile crosses his lips as his ears pin back, a little worried, but overall relieved to see R'yoji somewhat confident in this encounter. Twirling his lance in a hand, he holds it in a position, ready to imbue it with the power of dragons and dragoons long gone.
Instead of an azure blue that once slithered around his body, emboldening him in every battle, a crimson red replaces it. The wisps of dragons coil around him, roaring at the figure in front of them. They start covering his lance, charging it up further. ]
This may be the end for you once and for all, nightmare.
[ This dream can't even compare to the real terror of the dragon... The dragon that held onto revenge and hate for so long as a salve to its wounds, but it only festered. It's a mere fabrication of what once was, a ghost that latched onto R'yoji like a parasite.
Concentrating, he merely points his lance at the staggering staggering nightmare and a red astral dragon is called forth. It spirals and rushes over, engulfing R'yoji and consuming Nidhogg—it leaves his partner unscathed, but can't say for the bad dream... It isn't enough to put it down, but it should continue to slow it. In the end, he can't finish what R'yoji should, but he can support him. ]
[ It's that very support that gives him the strength he needs to face it once and for all. Support that, once upon a time, he would have surely turned away from. To continue diving into the shadows alone. To face everything by himself, seeking the end that he could not see among the flood of darkness. A shiver runs down his spine as that red serpentine dragon form traces over him but with naught a scratch upon him. Instead, he sees it strike fang and teeth into Nidhogg's demonic shape that staggers from the weight of attacks and drops onto a knee.
Ears flicker back at sound of those words encouraging him on. Belonging to a voice that pushed at him, that struck at his core as it edged him on during the war. Fought against him while also dragging out answers: Who are you? What is it you fight and for what reason? He was a called hero, a Warrior of Light that was to be the guiding light to the people. In this moment, he finds it more fitting that such a title belongs to his comrade, his best friend and love.
This was the very man that yelled words that truly had him questioning his earlier decisions. Who is here helping him face his nightmares, not to laugh or scoff about but to truly support him in his time of need. To think how much more terrifying that was, to take that help than actually be here now. His earlier tremors of course haven't left his mind. Even now, the greatsword in hand seeming more heavier than usual.
He shakes his head. He does not want his friend's efforts to be for naught, striking upon the nightmare manifested slice after heavy swing. The red darkness normally engulfing his form flaring as he puts all his strength into stabbing right through the chest of the beast that makes a guttural sound. It heaves a few more breaths, clawed hand on the blade as it growls some words that have R'yoji's eyes widening with ears perked straight upright. All his movements freeze, blinking only a moment until the nightmare starts to fade into shadows and soon vanishes entirely.
The blade falls to the ground with a sound, R'yoji heavily leaning onto it as he stares where it once was before he straightens with a light shake. For a moment, he doesn't move, doesn't look at V'seji right away. ]
.. I didn't think I needed this. Mayhaps I was being stubborn. Thinking what I had- [ a swallow, no that's not right ] have is all I need. I wanted to believe that. I had.. this mindset that this was for nothing and maybe I still do want to believe that. [ I need to believe this was for nothing. ]
.. [ Even now, he does not turn, but there's a heaviness to his words as he speaks. Ears fold back, head dipping as he feels the sting in his chest, flared and hot as the day Nidhogg struck at him. A hand presses to his chest, taking a breath he feels held for too long, a wetness to his eyes that he blinks rapidly to chase away. ]
I cannot tell if this is our end, but it is at least our closure. [ The shadowy form beside him drops to its knees with an echoing sound of chains before too leaving his side. Once he's sure he's not looking too miserable does he turn around, a sheepish look on his face. ] We're done now, aye?
[ He's feeling ready to do just about. Anything else, really. ]
