Huh?! As much as I'd like to, it's kind of hard to convince people to take care of strays!

[ Vash can be realistic, even if he wishes for all the little buddies to find a home or be taken care of. Realistically, people may feed them every once in a while on whim...

But he's hoping perhaps they'll be taken off the street, much like him back in the day. ]

[ JUST LIKE. AS CLOSE AS HE CAN GET TO YELLING AT HIM without actually yelling at him because they're indoors in a perfectly nice bakery. You caring HYPOCRITE. ]

[ Vash is wondering what's happening right now... Aren't they supposed to have a nice meetup at his work? His coworkers are whispering amongst themselves as they look over here, maybe snickering or giggling. ]

I mean, if we have to leave, then we have to leave?!

[ He's so confused. When did Wolfwood ever care about the superficial relationships Vash cultivates in short stays? Sure, he will be sad, but he would move on. ]

[ HE'S ALWAYS CARED. Less so about people. A little more about animals because people can learn to take care of themselves and are often worse than animals. ]

The hell kinda croissants you makin' that they're gonna turn into rocks? I thought their whole point was that they're all soft and stuff.

[ Unlike baguettes, which Wolfwood is convinced you can eventually use those as blunt force weapons. ]

[ ............... Oh, oops. He forgot he has gone past that phase of making awful croissants that can be used as blunt weapons. ]

[ Don't worry about it. However, the story is Nat forgot her sandwich in Yuul's fridge and we remembered in two days after and it was like a brick. He holds out his not brick croissant for Wolfwood to take a bite. While gay to some others, it seems normal for him. ]

In two hours. [ So not bad. ] Got something you have to do?

That's not a real thing.

[ Said with the wumph of a man who says it for the sake of 'because I don't want it to be' more than because objectively it isn't. People on this planet are weird. Self-defense croissants aren't off the table, and it's probably rat poison. ]

Not really, but I got ways of makin' my time work out. I'm sure I can make a quick double dollar in two hours somewhere.

[ Doing what. Confessional of course, even if he's considering a job change doesn't mean old habits just die hard. ]

[ Vash immediately tries to send the fear of God and No Man's Land ingenuity into Wolfwood. People are weird in their planet? But at least his croissants are not. After drinking some more tea and finishing his half, he gently nudges Wolfwood's foot with his own under the table, playfully. In an annoying way, not romantic way.

Maybe a bit romantic. ]

If you don't mind a little clean-up work...

[ The bakery will be dirty is the implication. Elbows anchored onto the table, head propped onto his palms, batting his eyelashes... Despite the obnoxious display, he sincerely wants Wolfwood close. Misses him dearly, but he's not going to say it right now. ]

[ If he wanted to be annoying, it'd probably be an under-table kick. Which is not off the table for the both of them who still act like children sometimes, just not right now.

They're still definitely riding the high of reunion. He hums a little bit to himself, a little padding to stretch out the time even though he knows he's already going to say yes. Wolfwood has classically been very bad at denying Vash most things he wants when it comes from the heart. ]

The pay decent?

[ He'd do it for free if Vash asked nicely enough. ]

[ Wolfwood is really letting them hook heels a little. It's very middle-schooler for them, but they should be allowed when they've had barely a childhood.

He nibbles on the last piece of croissant with the edges of his lips curled. ]

Pay's decent. Plus, we can go get some gelato after.

[ Which they could have done even if they split, but he did mean go together, arrive together, more time together. ]

[ What's the cafe going to do, look under the table and kick them out. Okay some part of him does internally think it's weird because he has no experience being romantic and mushy, but it's inoffensive so why stop him. It's cute that Vash wants to do this or that. ]

Mhm. Consider me convinced for now then. Point me to who I gotta talk to.

[ Vash can be amused at the sight of Wolfwood in an apron sweeping up around the place. ]

[ There's comfort in touch, romantic or not. Vash isn't tactile, but he'd allow himself small reminders of existing, of the person in front of him being here... Flesh and all.

With Wolfwood's confirmation, Vash enthusiastically and hazardously waves toward the counter, catching the attention of staff. There's only a small shift in their hooked heels. Someone's careful despite the show. ]

Mister Izola! This guy's up for cleaning and lifting!

[ And a guy with a handlebar mustache shows up. How will you impress him, Wolfwood? ]

[ He will remain amused, subtly, at Vash's attempt to keep doing this in the face of his boss. Unnecessarily sneaky, and therefore hilarious.

Anyway you know how Wolfwood is good at putting up airs and friendly energy. He just flashes a plain smile of someone stupid, but not too stupid. Friendly and simple! ]

I don't carry around a resume but I've been hired from May to Augusta on and off and always leave places spotless.

[ All those odd jobs and ends, though the veracity of 'spotless' is up for debate. Mostly because of the amount of times they've had to flee in bullets and blood because another fight broke out but Mister Izola doesn't need to know that. ]

[ The funnier thing is that there's not much obscuring their legs, so... The staff can see this happening. They just choose to not comment on it.

It's not like a lot of jobs they can easily pick up need a spotless record. Vash simply smiles in a similar way as the partner in the act, though his gaze shifts over to Wolfwood.

Mister Izola says he gets the job! Not like he was looking for experience. Any help would be good considering they have a small staff and honestly the staff looks a little scrawny. With that, the staff and the boss himself returns to work. A couple of customers are coming in for the last round of the day.

Vash props his head on a palm, elbow rested on the table, smiling like usual. Very amused. ]

Woah... Laying it on him thick. I almost believed you're a good boy.

[ So funny. ]

You gotta do what you gotta do to get a paycheck in this world, spikey.

[ Sitting back in his chair when Izola gives him the job, chilling here until he gets deets later on when he should pick up a mop and where. ]

And I'm perfectly good when the situation calls for it.

And a good boy is rewarded with double dollars and a nice trip to get some ice cream!

[ He's actually quite excited to get ice cream, so that waters down his desire to bully Wolfwood for his altar boy service.

We can fast forward them closing out the bakery? Izola would give Wolfwood some cleaning tasks and asking if he wouldn't mind bringing ingredients from their local sources next morning for extra hours of pay. They probably also get a bunch of leftover baked goods that weren't purchased. Not too many, but a decent amount of BREAD. ]

[ That's easy enough really. Little fetch errands and cleaning off shelves, help wash off some pans when there isn't anything else to do in the front. Wolfwood doesn't like to stay idle so work away he does since he's feeling perfectly peachy today. Wow, how productive?

After the bakery he's just leaning full weight on Vash as they leave trying to peer into the bag of breads. What we got. ]

[ Every once in a while, Vash will pass by just to see what Wolfwood's doing before going on with his own cleanup work and tomorrow prep.

two croissants of different flavors, a chocolate chip pain au lait, a cinnamon roll, two orange sugar buns... Wouldn't it be funny if I say one calzone. This is a lot of sugar. ]

Working for a food place is really nice when there's stuff leftover.

[ Why are you denying them calzones. He scrunches his nose a little bit because he can smell the sweetness from the bag -- his overly sharp senses, assaulted with the fresh scent of cinnamon and citrus. Curiosity satisfied, olfactory senses assaulted, he pulls back to walk normally. ]

Couldn't cough up a coffee cream, huh? Damn.

[ He's joking he would never turn down free food. Most of the time. Well, he just mostly hopes these breads will be able to hold their own, their room probably has a small fridge. ]

[ CALZONES IN A BAKERY? ]

The funny thing is the sweeter stuff was more popular when the place opened, but people started picking the less sweeter stuff. Probably got tired from all the sugar.

[ They can head back to their little hostel and leave their bread in the fridge before they head out to the gelato place. ]

Got a flavor in mind you wanted to try? They give small spoonfuls for samples in case you're indecisive.

[ Yeah why not. It's a baked good. Bakeries have things that aren't exclusively sweets and pastries. ]

Think it's just that people like it when they see somethin' new.

[ Novelty!! It's always fun and fresh. Bread: Fridged. Location: Headed. Gelato: Seen. He's looking at vanilla... caramel cream... coffee again. ]

[ I think the Italians would hate No Man's Land. Inside the shop they go and it's small and quaint.

Vash hovers over the cased display, perusing the flavors. ]

[ Me thinking about how funny it'd be if he just responded 'makes sense' but he doesn't. ]

Uh-huh. Feels like you always go for sweet stuff.

[ Like. Gelato is typically sweet but you know what he means. ]
