[ Ever since the beginning of his and Kaveh's relationship, Alhaitham has been kicked out of their home with more frequency than usual.
Thankfully this is done for only a few hours at a time if not while Alhaitham is at work. While Alhaitham could staunchly refuse and plant his feet, Kaveh's deep cleaning sessions usually mean one thing: that they're expecting company, whether Alhaitham likes it or not. (Accusing Kaveh of being spoiled, which he most definitely is, results in being booted out even sooner.)
Alhaitham bickers with Kaveh about this mostly out of habit, to lessen any semblance of pity on Alhaitham's part. In the end, Kaveh's friends always arrive at their doorstep. It's a chance for Kaveh to spend time with people he's elated to see, who understand him and his traumas on a different level than Alhaitham could ever reach. Alhaitham ultimately accepts each visit for this reason, knowing that Kaveh wouldn't press him if he ever truly refused it. It's worth watching the tension melt from Kaveh's neck and shoulders the instant he opens their front door.
This is why Alhaitham is arriving home late this morning, locking the door behind him before sliding off his boots. A burlap satchel is slung over his bare shoulder, the sack heavy with produce, a bag of pistachios and padisarah petals, and a warm loaf of bread—all for last-minute snack preparation. ]
By the time I arrived, there was only a single Jueyun Chili left at the stall. [ The bag gets deposited onto one of the tables in the kitchen. Alhaitham fishes out the loaf of bread to set onto a cutting board. ] You'll have to make do with that and what we have left on our shelves.

ANYWAY. Regardless of how Alhaitham feels about his peace and quiet getting shattered, this visit should hardly be a surprise. Just as Kaveh tries his hardest to keep in touch with Vash and Wolfwood--given that he still doesn't think they'd agree to move to Teyvat, and thus hasn't asked, though he pathetically invites them over as often as possible--so too does he do his best to keep in contact with Livio as frequently as their lives will allow. They'd all had their own troubles to deal with upon returning from the game, but as soon as things calmed down (and Kaveh recovered mentally, a little, kind of, it's fine), he'd been sure to extend an invitation for a visit to Livio too. It's a small, subtle sign of ownership, of comfort, treating the house as his own and offering space to his most beloved companions--as is kicking Alhaitham out of it and sending him on grocery runs, but that's neither here nor there.
More importantly, the promise of a Livio visit definitely has him energized, though that has manifested in GET RID OF THE COUCHES WE CAN'T LET PEOPLE KNOW WE SIT energy. (He didn't actually get rid of the couches.) But listen, his Livio!!!! Kaveh doesn't know much about the Triguns' lives in No Man's Land, but he knows that they're busy and often in danger; even though they can take care of themselves, he's seen enough of their pasts, their mannerisms, and their hell-forged endurance that his heart aches whenever he thinks of what they must go through from day to day. Being able to give them a little slice of peace feels like the very least he can do for people he cares about so deeply--and, of course, he's always selfishly glad to spend time with them.
Right now he's got his hair up and his sleeves pushed back as he washes the fruits he'd made Alhaitham buy the previous day, peering out the kitchen window every few minutes as he waits for Livio's arrival. He'd given the clearest instructions he could, but he knows the city can be hard to navigate for people who aren't used to it, so he's ready to pop out to rescue Livio if he gets lost. Sumeru City is so green... built into a tree... at least Alhaitham's house isn't TOO hard to find given it's like 5 seconds away from the biggest building in the city but still. THERE ARE SO MANY RAMPS what if Livio takes a wrong turn and ends up getting swindled in the marketplace!!!]

With their party hats adorned, or at least Vash is wearing one, they are hiding in the dark when they know Alhaitham is close (how do they know, don't ask). Lights on upon the door creaking open and Vash will pull out a party popper, pulling the string, and letting it pop with festive confetti. ]
[ OK. Alhaitham had been bracing himself for something when he was shoved out the door that morning to do some shopping at the bazaar. Get-togethers with friends (actual friends, he can call them now) at Lambad's aside, Alhaitham didn't need anything exceptional on his birthday. But yeah, he just turned off the noise-cancelling function in his earpieces just before walking in the door, which was a mistake.

While Alhaitham could staunchly refuse and plant his feet, Kaveh's deep cleaning sessions usually mean one thing: that they're expecting company, whether Alhaitham likes it or not. (Accusing Kaveh of being spoiled, which he most definitely is, results in being booted out even sooner.)
Alhaitham bickers with Kaveh about this mostly out of habit, to lessen any semblance of pity on Alhaitham's part. In the end, Kaveh's friends always arrive at their doorstep. It's a chance for Kaveh to spend time with people he's elated to see, who understand him and his traumas on a different level than Alhaitham could ever reach. Alhaitham ultimately accepts each visit for this reason, knowing that Kaveh wouldn't press him if he ever truly refused it. It's worth watching the tension melt from Kaveh's neck and shoulders the instant he opens their front door.
This is why Alhaitham is arriving home late this morning, locking the door behind him before sliding off his boots. A burlap satchel is slung over his bare shoulder, the sack heavy with produce, a bag of pistachios and padisarah petals, and a warm loaf of bread—all for last-minute snack preparation. ]
By the time I arrived, there was only a single Jueyun Chili left at the stall. [ The bag gets deposited onto one of the tables in the kitchen. Alhaitham fishes out the loaf of bread to set onto a cutting board. ] You'll have to make do with that and what we have left on our shelves.

ANYWAY. Regardless of how Alhaitham feels about his peace and quiet getting shattered, this visit should hardly be a surprise. Just as Kaveh tries his hardest to keep in touch with Vash and Wolfwood--given that he still doesn't think they'd agree to move to Teyvat, and thus hasn't asked, though he pathetically invites them over as often as possible--so too does he do his best to keep in contact with Livio as frequently as their lives will allow. They'd all had their own troubles to deal with upon returning from the game, but as soon as things calmed down (and Kaveh recovered mentally, a little, kind of, it's fine), he'd been sure to extend an invitation for a visit to Livio too. It's a small, subtle sign of ownership, of comfort, treating the house as his own and offering space to his most beloved companions--as is kicking Alhaitham out of it and sending him on grocery runs, but that's neither here nor there.
More importantly, the promise of a Livio visit definitely has him energized, though that has manifested in GET RID OF THE COUCHES WE CAN'T LET PEOPLE KNOW WE SIT energy. (He didn't actually get rid of the couches.) But listen, his Livio!!!! Kaveh doesn't know much about the Triguns' lives in No Man's Land, but he knows that they're busy and often in danger; even though they can take care of themselves, he's seen enough of their pasts, their mannerisms, and their hell-forged endurance that his heart aches whenever he thinks of what they must go through from day to day. Being able to give them a little slice of peace feels like the very least he can do for people he cares about so deeply--and, of course, he's always selfishly glad to spend time with them.
Right now he's got his hair up and his sleeves pushed back as he washes the fruits he'd made Alhaitham buy the previous day, peering out the kitchen window every few minutes as he waits for Livio's arrival. He'd given the clearest instructions he could, but he knows the city can be hard to navigate for people who aren't used to it, so he's ready to pop out to rescue Livio if he gets lost. Sumeru City is so green... built into a tree... at least Alhaitham's house isn't TOO hard to find given it's like 5 seconds away from the biggest building in the city but still. THERE ARE SO MANY RAMPS what if Livio takes a wrong turn and ends up getting swindled in the marketplace!!!]
What? Seriously? [Ugh... he sets the fruit down, drying his hands on a towel and peering out the window again.] What about Afshin? He's still in town, isn't he?

So they're here!
Well, Alhaitham's house is decorated however Kaveh sees fit. I don't think the Triguns would touch anything since they're stray dogs in the form of adult men... And they likely didn't buy decorations. Maybe they helped Kaveh make the cake which might have been the biggest undertaking with a perfectionist, but they did it.
With their party hats adorned, or at least Vash is wearing one, they are hiding in the dark when they know Alhaitham is close (how do they know, don't ask). Lights on upon the door creaking open and Vash will pull out a party popper, pulling the string, and letting it pop with festive confetti. ]
